Update: Woman Killed In Crash Involving Sun Metro Bus Identified

El Paso Police have identified the 27-year-old woman who was struck and killed in a two-vehichle crash involving a Sun Metro bus Monday night.

Veronica Ramirez, of the 3400 block of Frankfort, was one of two pedestrians involved in the crash, but the only one who died.

Police said that a 2007 Nabi Sun Metro Bus was traveling north on Copia and the two pedestrians had just exited the bus at a bus stop in the area. As the bus proceeded north on Copia, a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by 28-year-old Richard Rodriguez, was traveling south on Copia. Police said Rodriguez lost control of the Crown Victoria, causing the vehicle to travel into northbound lanes.

The Crown Victoria then struck the bus head on. The two pedestrians, who were walking on the sidewalk, were then struck by the rear of the Crown Victoria. Ramirez was pinned between the car and a rock wall. There were a total of 15 people on the bus, including the driver.

One passenger on the bus suffered a minor injury and was transported to an area hospital.

The child pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. Rodriguez is being treated for serious injuries as well. At this time police said they believe speed on behalf of the Crown Victoria to be a factor in this crash. Alcohol is not suspected in this fatal crash.

This is the 23rd traffic related death of 2011 as compared to 23 at this time in 2010.
