El Paso Police Statement On Sensitivity Training

El Paso Police Dept. spokesman Det. Mike Baranyay sent ABC-7 the following statement regarding the department’s sensitivity training:

“The El Paso Police Department Training Academy produced a training bulletin on July 13, 2009 in respect to the incident that occurred at a restaurant several years ago. That bulletin was sent to every officer on the Department. In addition, a second Special Order was dated December 15, 2010 that addressed Racial and Bias Based Profiling. The El Paso Police Department also conducts Cultural Diversity Training and Ethics Training in accordance with State Regulations. Our Department is well trained in dealing with people from various cultures and backgrounds. Citizens should not be concerned with the level of training related to these matters and rest assured appropriate training is being conducted.”
