Driver Wanted In Alleged Hit-And-Run Death Of Socorro Teen Arrested
Investigators with the Socorro Police Department said the driver accused in the hit-and-run that claimed the life a Socorro teenager on May 10 turned himself in on Monday
Richard Monroy Jr., 25, accompanied by his attorney, surrendered to Socorro Police Officers just after 3 p.m. Monday at the Socorro PD Rio Vista Sub-Station, 800 N. Rio Vista Road Socorro. He has officially been charged with accident causing injury or death.
It was last Tuesday night when Monroy allegedly struck 13-year-old Brian Hernandez on Buena Vista and North Loop in Socorro.
Monroy allegedly drove off without offering help. Later that night, Monroy was arrested in connection to an assault case that led to a car chase.
He bonded out before officials made a connection with the hit and run, Socorro Police officials said.
Officials said Monroy has a lengthy criminal record.
Monroy was featured in Monday’s “Manhunt Monday” feature by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and is the 78th person out of 127 to be captured.
