Former El Paso Police Sergeant Sentenced

A former El Paso police officer accused of coming on to a high school student and threatening her boyfriend has been sentenced to eight years of deferred adjudication.

A spokesperson for District Attorney Jaime Esparza’s office says Miguel Lucero, who used to work on campus at Riverside High School, pleaded guilty to a charge of Improper Relationship Between and Educator and Student Monday.

Judge Sam Medrano then sentenced Lucero to eight years of deferred adjudication, a $1,000 fine and 400 hours of community service. Lucero, who was fired from the department last December, was also ordered not to have any contact with the victim.

Court records state he touched a 15-year-old student’s breast around March of 2009. The girl’s boyfriend later wrote a letter to Police Chief Greg Allen, accusing Lucero of calling and texting the girl, and saying Lucero threatened to get him out of the picture by having him arrested. The alleged harassment began when the girl was a freshman and continued through the end of her senior year.
