Man Impersonating Police Officer Early Wednesday Morning Attempts Traffic Stop

Investigators from the El Paso Police Department?s Pebble tactical unit have arrested Jerry GALLARDO for Impersonating a Public Servant.

The investigation revealed that GALLARDO was driving a black, 2008 Ford Mustang at 1:20 a.m., Wednesday 06-15-2011 in the 1900 block of George Dieter. GALLARDO attempted to stop a motorist by activating blue and red flashing strobe lights that were mounted in the grill oh his Mustang.

An unmarked police vehicle observed GALLARDO attempting to stop the motorist. GALLARDO was seen accelerating at a high rate of speed down Beachfront. A marked police unit eventually stopped GALLARDO and investigators observed that GALLARDO had aftermarket strobe lights mounted similar to how El Paso Police currently use.

GALLARDO was placed under arrest and booked into the El Paso County Jail on the charge of Impersonating Public Servant and his bonds totaled $2,999.30.

El Paso Police Department Traffic officers who operate Ford Mustangs wear the distinctive El Paso Police Uniform when making traffic stops.
