UPDATE: Police Identify Officers, Man Injured in Saturday Shooting

El Paso Police have identified both officers and the man who was shot during early-Saturday morning shooting in El Paso’s lower valley.

According to EPPD, the officers who discharged their weapons have been identified as Officer Antonio Licerio, a three year veteran of the El Paso Police Department and Officer Keenan Greseth, a one year and four month veteran of the police force.

The man shot by Officers Licerio and Greseth was identified as Hector Piedra. Police tell ABC-7 that warrants have been obtained for Piedra for Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, Evading Arrest or Detention, and Assault Family Violence.

Piedra remains in stable condition at Del Sol Medical Center and will be booked upon his medical release.

The shooting happened Saturday morning at about 4:25 at the 300 block of Mirasol in the Lower Valley.

The officers were responding to a report of a domestic disturbance at a house on that block. According to police, that’s when Piedra drove up to the home and into the officer’s marked unit that was parked. The suspect then got off the car and pointed a handgun at one of the officers.

Police said the man was fleeing from another police officer and was involved in the alleged domestic dispute that had taken place at the home the officers responded to.

When Piedra pointed his gun at the officers, police said the officers at the home shot the man on his abdomen and thigh. He dropped to the ground and dropped the weapon. Police said he was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“Calm, this is a calm neighborhood so it is strange that something like that would happen here,” says long-time resident Pedro Tapia. He heard the shots early in the morning but thought they were fireworks.

The Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit, Crime Scene Unit, Shooting Review Team and District Attorney’s office are all investigating the case.

Piedra is currently facing charges of Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle (felony) and Aggravated Assault – Public Servant. He’s also facing additional charges stemming from the family fight.
