School delays announced for Thursday

EL PASO, Texas and LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- School districts in the Borderland are announcing weather delays and operations for Thursday based on the winter storm still affecting the area. Some districts have decided to return to regular operations. This article will be updated as more details are released.

LAS CRUCES PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Due to inclement weather, Las Cruces Public Schools will begin all classes two hours later than regular start times on Thursday, Jan. 9. Bus schedules will be adjusted accordingly.  

District officials have been in communication with the National Weather Service in Santa Teresa throughout the week and will monitor conditions overnight. Parents and staff are reminded to watch official district communication channels for updates.  

Las Cruces Public Schools is on Facebook, Instagram and X. All updates are posted to the district website and through the LCPS smartphone app.

GADSDEN ISD

Due to the forecast of low temperatures and possible precipitation overnight, the Gadsden Independent School District will operate on a two-hour delay for both students and staff on Thursday, January 9th.

This delay is being implemented out of an abundance of caution to allow for safer travel conditions in the morning.

NMSU AND DACC

NMSU’s Las Cruces campus and all Doña Ana Community College campuses will delay opening until 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan.9, due to expected overnight weather conditions and in alignment with announcements by local school districts.

CLINT ISD

Dear Parents, Community Members, and Staff of Clint ISD, Our area is still under a winter weather advisory. We will implement a delayed start to the school day on Thursday, January 9th. Please see the adjusted schedule. Our school buildings will be open at their regular start times to accommodate families who need to drop off their children before the delayed start time. Breakfast will also be available throughout this arrival time. Essential personnel, as communicated by their supervisor, will report at the regular times in order to support the arrival of students. Essential Staff, please use caution and travel when road conditions are safe.

SAN ELIZARIO ISD

Due to the uncertainty of the weather conditions for tomorrow, Thursday, January 9, 2025, and possible hazardous road conditions, the San Elizario Independent School District will operate on a 1 hour and 30-minute delayed start schedule.

Elementary schools (Loya Primary School, Sambrano Elementary School, Alarcon Elementary School, and Borrego Elementary School) will begin at 8:50 AM.
Secondary schools (Garcia-Enriquez Middle School and San Elizario High School) will begin at 9:35 AM.
Bus stops will operate on a 1 hour and 30-minute delay from their regular pick-up times.
This decision has been made to prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and community.

Should the weather require any additional changes to the schedule or a cancellation, we will inform all families, staff, and community members no later than 5:00 PM the day before.

EL PASO LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

Due to severe weather, El Paso Leadership Academy will be on a 2 hour delay tomorrow, Thursday January 9th, 2025. Students start classes at 10:00am sharp. No breakfast will be served only lunch meals.

FABENS ISD

Fabens ISD has made the decision to impose a two-hour delay on all campuses and offices. This will include delays on all bus and meal schedules.


REGULAR OPERATIONS

EL PASO ISD

After assessing current weather conditions and consulting with local authorities, the district will operate on its regular schedule on Thursday, January 9, 2025. All schools and district offices will be open, and regular classes will resume as usual. Extended Day Learning classes will also take place as scheduled.

The safety of our students and staff continues to be our top priority. We remain in close communication with the Office of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service and will provide any necessary updates through our normal communication channels.

Thank you for your continued trust and understanding. We look forward to welcoming students back to school tomorrow.

SOCORRO ISD

Socorro ISD will operate on a normal schedule tomorrow, Jan. 9. We will continue to monitor the weather and share any potential updates regarding inclement weather and changes in the school schedule via text/phone call, sisd.net and district social media.

CANUTILLO ISD

Canutillo ISD classes and office hours will operate on a regular schedule on Thursday, Jan. 9. The District made the decision after consulting with weather forecasters and emergency management authorities. All after-school activities and sports will continue as scheduled.

Canutillo continues to prioritize student safety along with high quality teaching and learning in making decisions about changes to the instructional day. 

ANTHONY ISD

Anthony ISD schools and offices plan to operate on a regular schedule on Thursday, January 9. After gathering information from meteorologists and emergency management personnel, the district believes that temperatures may not be cold enough to cause dangerous road conditions. District staff will continue monitoring the weather conditions. Should there be a change in the school schedule, we will provide new information through phone calls, emails, district social media and local news media. We thank our school community for their cooperation in helping us continue educating our students. We look forward to seeing students back in class tomorrow at their regular start time.  

RADFORD SCHOOL

Radford School will resume its regular schedule on Thursday, January 9, 2025. All classes will resume as usual. We remain vigilant of the weather conditions and will communicate updates through school communication channels.

YSLETA ISD

Officials with Ysleta ISD announced there will be no changes to the regular school day. All classes will proceed as normal.
