Friday weather delays of schools and agencies

EL PASO, Texas and LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- As snow blanketed the Borderland into Thursday afternoon, school districts and area agencies began announcing decision on delays and closures for the evening and following day. This article will be updated with the latest as more announcements are made:

THURSDAY EARLY RELEASE/CLOSURE

YSLETA ISD

Due to inclement weather, all students in the Ysleta Independent School District will be released at 2:45 p.m. today (Thursday).

Students who ride the bus will be held at the school until buses have finished their elementary school routes. All athletic and extracurricular activities will be canceled. EPISD

Schools and administrative offices will conclude the day as scheduled (Thursday).

Extended Day Learning will continue this afternoon; however, we recommend families to pick up their child at the earliest convenience.

All after-school activities for this evening have been cancelled and all out-of-town travel has been delayed until tomorrow afternoon.

SOCORRO ISD

Due to the inclement weather we are experiencing, all afterschool activities for today, Jan. 9 have been cancelled. In addition, Socorro ISD will operate on a delayed start schedule tomorrow, Jan. 10. All schools will start two hours from their normal starting time. Morning Pre-K three-year-old classes are canceled for the day. Transportation will be provided two hours from normal pick-up times. Breakfast service will be provided per the two-hour delay. As more information is available, we will provide updates via the district website at www.sisd.net, phone messages, social media, the news media and/or from the District Service Center.

SAN ELIZARIO ISD

All after school extracurricular activities have been cancelled for Thursday.
San Elizario High School and Garcia-Enriquez Middle School students who ride the bus will be held at their respective school until buses have completed their elementary school routes.

FABENS ISD

All after-school activities are canceled today due to inclement weather.

EL PASO COUNTY OFFICES

The El Paso County Courthouse and its satellite offices will close early at 3 p.m. on 1.9.25 and delay opening until 10 a.m. on 1.10.25 for all non-essential staff due to weather and road conditions. If you are an employee with questions, please contact your supervisor.

DACC

Doña Ana Community College (DACC) closed at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 9th.  Employees at those campuses were released at that time and encouraged to use care in returning home due to hazardous driving conditions. As information becomes available, including when campuses and centers will resume normal operations, details will be posted on our Facebook page and on our website at https://dacc.nmsu.edu/.   

CITY OF LAS CRUCES

Cold temperatures and icy roadways have led to City of Las Cruces non-emergency operations closing two-hours early on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025.

The early closure includes public facilities such as City Hall, Library, Museums, Senior Programs, Parks and Recreation facilities, and utilities offices. City offices will close at 3 p.m. Roadrunner Transit will maintain operations as scheduled. Warming stations will stay open for the hours previously announced.

Emergency services, such as police and fire, will not be affected and Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch, the 911 call center, will remain operational.

DOÑA ANA COUNTY OFFICES

Doña Ana County’s Government Center and administrative offices closed at 1 p.m. (Thursday) out of an abundance of caution and to help keep residents and employees safe from worsening weather conditions.

We will continue to monitor the weather closely and provide updates regarding Friday’s business hours, as soon as possible.

DOÑA ANA COURTS

Due to an inclement weather forecast in our area please be advised the Third Judicial District Court and the Doña Ana County Magistrate Courts will be closed to the public at 3:30 pm today, January 9, 2025.

CITY OF SOCORRO

Due to the inclement weather classes at the Rio Vista & Chayo Apodaca Community Center will be canceled and closing at 5 PM. Please call the office at (915)860-8615 for any questions.


CLASSES CANCELLED

EL PASO CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

Due to inclement weather conditions affecting the region, several local Catholic schools will adjust their schedules for the day. Parents, students, and staff are encouraged to remain informed of any changes to ensure safety and timely arrival.

The following schools will be closed tomorrow January 10, 2025:

REMOTE CLASSES

GADSDEN ISD

All classes will be conducted remotely tomorrow, Friday, January 10th, due to anticipated icy road conditions. Class schedules will remain the same, starting at their normal times.


DELAYED START

EPISD

A two-hour delay will be in effect for the entire district for Friday.

Extended Day Learning will not operate in the morning and will resume normal activities in the afternoon.

YSLETA ISD

Due to the inclement weather, all schools and administrative offices in the Ysleta Independent School District will have a two-hour delayed start from the normal time on Friday, Jan. 10.

Morning PRE-3 classes will NOT take place Friday, but the afternoon PRE-3 classes will take place as usual. For students who ride the bus, all buses will pick up at the designated bus stop two hours from the original pick-up time. Meals will be provided to all students attending campus for classes. LAS CRUCES PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Overnight temperatures expected Thursday evening have prompted Las Cruces Public Schools to call for another delayed start to the school day on Friday, Jan. 10. All classes will begin two hours later than regular. Bus schedules will be adjusted accordingly.

Because of their location at White Sands Missile Range, any adjustments to the schedule at White Sands School will be communicated directly from the principal.

According to the National Weather Service, today’s wet conditions, coupled with overnight freezing temperatures, could create difficult driving conditions in the early morning hours. Parents and staff are reminded to watch official district communication channels for updates.

Las Cruces Public Schools is on Facebook, Instagram and X. All updates are posted to the district website and through the LCPS smartphone app.

CANUTILLO ISD

Canutillo ISD will call a district emergency and delay the start of classes and office hours on Friday, Jan 10, in response to the winter weather conditions expected in the region. All classes and school bus pick up times will start two hours later than normal.

Please note that breakfast service will be suspended for Friday.

The decision was made by District officials following advise from weather forecasters and Office of Emergency Management, who predict snow and below-freezing temperatures through the early morning.

CLINT ISD

Due to a continued winter weather advisory in effect through tonight and tomorrow morning, we will implement a 2-hour delayed start to the school day on Friday, January 10, 2025. Our school buildings will be open at their regular start times to accommodate families who need to drop off their children before the delayed start time. Breakfast will be available for all students. As with the delayed start on January 9th, essential personnel designated by their supervisors are expected to report at their regular times to support student arrival. Please prioritize safety and travel only when road conditions allow. Just as a reminder, buses will operate on a 2-hour delay as well. Stay safe and warm.

SAN ELIZARIO ISD

Due to the uncertainty of the weather conditions for tomorrow, Friday, January 10, 2025, and possible hazardous road conditions, the San Elizario Independent School District will operate on a 1 hour and 30-minute delayed start schedule.

Elementary Schools will begin at 8:50 AM:
Loya Primary School
Sambrano Elementary School
Alarcon Elementary School
Borrego Elementary School
Secondary schools will begin at 9:35 AM:
Garcia-Enriquez Middle School
San Elizario High School
Bus stops will operate on a 1 hour and 30-minute delay from their regular pick-up times.
This decision has been made to prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and community.

Should the weather require any additional changes to the schedule or a cancellation, we will inform all families, staff, and community members no later than 5:00 PM the day before.

ANTHONY ISD

Due to inclement weather expected in the area, Anthony ISD plans to operate on a 2-hour delayed start to the school day on Friday, January 10. We will continue to monitor weather conditions and notify the community of any additional changes or new information through phone calls, emails, social media, and local media channels.

FABENS ISD

Given the low wind chill and cold temperatures predicted overnight, Fabens ISD has made the decision to impose a two-hour delay on all campuses and offices on Friday, January 10, 2025.

EL PASO CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

Due to inclement weather conditions affecting the region, several local Catholic schools will adjust their schedules for the day. Parents, students, and staff are encouraged to remain informed of any changes to ensure safety and timely arrival.

The following schools will observe a 2-hour delay tomorrow January 10, 2025:

Fr. Yermo Schools
St. Patrick School
Most Holy Trinity School
St. Joseph School
St. Matthew School

IDEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Due to inclement weather and out of an abundance of caution, IDEA Public Schools will implement a two-hour delayed start for all campuses on Wednesday, January 10, 2025. Students should plan to arrive by 9:30 AM. The safety of our students, families, and team members is our highest priority. We encourage everyone to travel carefully and stay updated on any further announcements through our official communication channels. RADFORD SCHOOL

Radford School will operate on a two-hour delay for students and faculty on Friday, January 10, 2025 due to low temperatures and continued precipitation. The safety and well-being of our students and faculty is our primary priority. We thank you for your patience and cooperation during these weather challenges. 

Administrative and maintenance personnel should report at their normal times, using caution while traveling.

TRIUMPH HIGH SCHOOL

A delayed start at 10 am and afternoon classes at the regular time for Triumph High School El Paso West campus due to inclement weather.

EL PASO LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

Due to severe weather EPLA Flagship will be on a 2 hour delay tomorrow, January 10,2025. Students start classes promptly at 10am. No breakfast will be provided only lunch meals.

LA FE CLINICS AND SCHOOL

Due to expected severe temperatures and cold-weather conditions, all Centro De Salud Familiar La Fe clinics and offices will open on a two-hour delay on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025.

The La Fe Preparatory School's classes will open on a two-hour delay on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025.

FORT BLISS

As a result of school delays, as well as the potentially icy conditions tomorrow morning, Fort Bliss will operate on a delayed start tomorrow.

The standard duty day tomorrow for Soldiers and Civilians will begin at 9 a.m., except for any mission-essential personnel.

CDCs will open at 8 a.m., with the exception of Milam CDC which will open at the normal time for any mission-essential needs.

Gyms will open at a two-hour delay, with the exception of Soto gym which remains open 24/7.

If personnel have additional questions, they should consult their respective leadership.

WILLIAM BEAUMONT ARMY MEDICAL CENTER

Out of an abundance of caution and in consideration of the safety of our patients and staff, medical services will begin at 9:30 a.m., due to anticipated inclement weather conditions on Friday, Jan. 10.

The adjusted time means that patient appointments will start is 9:30 a.m. We hope this will provide ample time for patients to travel safely. We apologize for any inconvenience this delay may cause, and we appreciate your understanding and patience as we prioritize the well-being of our community.

Because of the federal holiday today (Thursday), medical teams and clinics will not call to adjust appointments until tomorrow morning, so if you have an appointment scheduled earlier than 9:30 a.m. Jan. 10, please consider it canceled. Someone will contact you later in the day to reschedule. Ancillary services (pharmacies, radiology, lab, etc.) will also begin at 9:30 a.m.

DACC

Due to expected overnight weather conditions, all Doña Ana Community College (DACC) campuses and centers will delay opening until 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, in alignment with announcements by local school districts. Updates will be posted at https://dacc.nmsu.edu/ as new information becomes available. 

EL PASO POLICE DEPARTMENT

Due to weather and road conditions, the counters at all police regional command centers, including headquarters, will be closed by 4 PM (Thursday) and will reopen at a delayed time of 10 AM on Friday, January 10th.

EL PASO COUNTY OFFICES

The El Paso County Courthouse and its satellite offices will close early at 3 p.m. on 1.9.25 and delay opening until 10 a.m. on 1.10.25 for all non-essential staff due to weather and road conditions. If you are an employee with questions, please contact your supervisor.

DOÑA ANA COUNTY OFFICES

Due to inclement weather conditions, Doña Ana County administrative offices will open with a one-hour delay on Friday, January 10.

The delayed opening will allow some additional time to ensure walkways and entrances are clear of ice that might build up overnight and allow staff and residents additional time to travel safely as road conditions improve.

CITY OF LAS CRUCES

In anticipation of icy roadways caused by the overnight cold temperatures, the City of Las Cruces non-emergency operations will have a delayed start by two-hours on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025.

All City facilities that are not designated as warming stations will open at 10 a.m. Transit will delay operations to begin at 8:30 a.m.

Warming stations provided by the City will be extended through Sunday, Jan. 12. Hours of operation for the warming stations will be:

• 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday
Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Avenue
• 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday
