All in for Conference USA EL PASO, TEXAS- The El Paso Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the unanimous decision of the County Commissioners Court to financially support the city’s effort to bring the Conference USA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships back to El Paso in 2014. The 2011 tournament proved to be a tremendous success by bringing in 3,500 guests, 2,400 hotel room nights, and accounted for an estimated 3.5 million dollars in economic impact. On Tuesday, August 2, City Council representatives voted in favor of bringing the tournament back to El Paso. Local organizers made the decision to bid on the tournament in 2014, as it coincides with UTEP’s historic centennial anniversary. “This is very exciting news for the entire city of El Paso,” says Bill Blaziek, General Manager of the El Paso CVB. “The success of this year’s tournament in March proved that El Paso is capable of hosting a large scale tournament. The decision to bid for 2014 is strengthened by the overwhelming support of the community, our local leaders, and the University of Texas at El Paso.” Organizers will submit the formal bid to Conference USA on Friday, August 12.
