Report: Juarez Police Commander Killed Near International Bridge

XHIJ, ABC-7’s media partners in Jurez, report a Mexican municipal police commander was gunned down in his patrol truck around 7:45 a.m. Saturday.

The attacked happened on the Mexican side of the river levee near the Paso Del Norte Bridge, according to XHIJ.

ABC-7’s partners said the commander has been identified as Victor Nazario Moreno Ramirez, of the Delicias substation in downtown Jurez.

XHIJ reported Moreno Ramirez was Jurez Police Chief Julian Leyzaola’s right-hand man and was in charge of the police ‘delta’ unit, tasked with cracking down on organized crime.

Moreno Ramirez had been the target of several recent attacks, according to XHIJ.
