SONIC to Once Again Sponsor I-10 Rivalry Series

EL PASO, TEXAS ? For the second year in a row SONIC®, America’s Drive-In® will serve as the title sponsor for the I-10 Rivalry Series matching UTEP and NM State.

This year?s edition of the SONIC Battle of I-10 will kick off on Sept. 17 when the Miner football team takes on the Aggies in Las Cruces. SONIC will also sponsor four basketball battles between UTEP and NMSU during the 2011-12 season ? two each on the men?s and women?s side. Men?s basketball matchups are slated for Nov. 19 (in Las Cruces) and Dec. 11 (in El Paso). Women?s basketball matchups are set for Nov. 16 (in Las Cruces) and Nov. 29 (in El Paso).

UTEP Coach Mike Price will discuss the SONIC Battle of I-10 in a press conference on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. at the SONIC located at 3435 North Mesa Street in El Paso.

” SONIC is thrilled to be a part of this great rivalry for the second straight year, and we are excited about all the support from UTEP and NMSU fans,? said Donna Volz, senior marketing director for the Merritt Group, which owns and operates SONIC Drive-ins in El Paso and Las Cruces. ?We are adding new voting elements and procedures this year in hopes of generating even greater participation.?

Fans can vote for their favorite team via each school’s athletic website.
