First Alert: NWS Issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning For Doa Ana and Luna Co.

The National Weather Servie in El Paso has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Dona Ana County in south central New Mexico and southeastern Luna County in southwest New Mexico.

The warning will be in effect until 7:15 p.m.

About 5:55 p.m., National Weather Service meteorologists detected severe easterly thunderstorms capable of producing golf-ball size hail and destructive winds in excess of 70 mph.

The locations that are expected to be impacted include: ? Sunland Park. ? Leasburg. ? Las Cruces. ? Anthony. ? Columbus ? Picacho. ? East Mesa. ? Talavera. ? Akela. ? Santa Teresa.

Residents are urged prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. People outside should move to a shelter, preferably inside a strong building and away from windows.
