UPDATE: Police Identify Man Killed In Three-Car Wreck

El Paso Police have identified the driver killed in a three-car wreck Saturday afternoon in far east El Paso.

The crash happened just before 4:45 on the 1400 block of Zaragoza, near Pellicano.

Investigators tell ABC-7 that Francisco Stevens, 47, was speeding south on Zaragoza when he lost control of his white Lexus sedan, veered into oncoming traffic and was then hit by a Ford Escape SUV.

Police said the impact of the crash caused the rear of the SUV to lift off the ground before landing on top of a third vehicle, a Honda Civic.

Stevens died at the scene, according to investigators.

Authorities said the driver of the SUV, 49-year-old Jesus Alvarez, and his passenger, a 14-year-old boy, both of Clint, were hospitalized with serious injuries.

The driver of the Honda was not injured, police said.

A witness told ABC-7 that following the crash, things appeared to get heated between some on the scene.

“They were starting to almost have a fight,” said Sally Hernandez. “There were no police officers, so the EMS crew was even involved until they actually had to be moved away.”

El Paso Police Spokesman Javier Sambrano said emotions do tend run to high when people are in shock.

“People are going to be in disbelief of what happened,” he said before adding that the “fight” may have been misinterpreted by witnesses.

Traffic was backed up on Zaragoza as crews cleaned up the scene.
