Oregon Street Construction Bad For Business?

It’s a massive, 15-month construction project intended to completely renovate Oregon Street, but the next phase in West El Paso may have some unintended consequences.

The new segment of construction will begin at Hague Road and end at University Avenue. The construction from Schuster Avenue to Hague Road should be wrapping up, but there could be an over-lap. It may cause Oregon Street to be closed from Schuster Avenue up to University Avenue.

A manager at a Burger King on Oregon Street said the new construction will have a damaging effect on business. She said the road closing will force them to close their drive-thru and leave the restaurant with only one entrance.

“It will definitely hurt business,” said the Burger King manager. “I hope construction starts soon so it ends soon”.

A spokeswoman for Las Palmas Medical Center said the new construction from Hague Road to University Avenue wouldn’t effect the hospital. According to UTEP this new phase of construction could last for three months.
