Teen Pleads No Contest To Felony Murder

The second of three teens accused with the murder of Adam Espinosa has entered a plea of No Contest to Felony Murder and several other charges.

Javier Orozco Jr. was one of three teens who was indicted by a Dona Ana County Grand Jury in February of 2010. He, along with Irvin ?Shadow? Ramirez and Jorge ?Phatboy? Murillo, are accused of robbing and killing Adam Espinosa, 20, then burning his body at a remote location in Anthony. At the time of the incident Ramirez was 16, Orozco was 15 and Murillo was 18. The three, according to authorities, were members of the Norteno Gang in Dona Ana County.

?While Adam can never be returned to his family, we can at least assure them that justice has been served in these prosecutions,? said District Attorney Amy Orlando, who previously took Ramirez to trial and won a conviction on all charges including Felony Murder and Armed Robbery.

The only remaining defendant in the case who has not been prosecuted is Jorge Murillo. Murillo has a trial date for February 20, 2012 in front of Judge Valentine.

Espinosa is believed to have been traveling across the country from San Antonio to Oceanside, California to live with his sister. He stopped at the I-10 rest stop area in Anthony to park and take a short nap when he was robbed and killed.

The .22 rifle used in the murder was originally found in Orozco?s home, as well as many of Espinosa?s belongings.

In addition to pleading guilty to Felony Murder, Orozco entered a plea of No Contest to the following charges: Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, Tampering with Evidence, arson, and Receiving Stolen Property.
