Police Still Searching For Missing Baby
Las Cruces Police are still searching for 1-year-old Nevaeh Jauregui, who has been missing since Dec. 26.
Relatives said someone has been tearing down missing person signs and telling people the baby has been found. Police sent out an alert Monday asking the community for help finding the child.
Nevaeh was in the custody of her grandmother, Angela Regalado, after a domestic disturbance involving the child’s mother, Nicole Jauregui, and boyfriend, Jose Mendez. Police said they found evidence of marijuana and cocaine in the couple’s apartment. They also said they found drugs in Nevaeh’s system.
Regalado said she last saw Nevaeh on Christmas when she allowed Nicole Jauregui to spend the night at her home. Regalado said when she woke up in the morning, the baby was gone, taken by Nicole Jauregui and Mendez.
Regalado said she hasn’t heard from her daughter since then.
When asked if she felt the baby was in danger, Regalado said, “Actually, yes I do. If they are still doing drugs or something, yeah, I do believe so. I do believe the baby needs to come home safely, too.”
Nevaeh is about 25 inches tall and weighs around 20 pounds.
Police have issued arrest warrants for Nicole Jauregui and Mendez. Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to Nevaeh’s safe return. They ask anyone with information to call (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
