German Air Force Leaving Fort Bliss

Big German defense cuts mean the German Air Force stationed at Fort Bliss will be leaving the post.

The German Air Force Command Air Defense Center has been stationed at Fort Bliss since 1956. German media is reporting that German defense reform is causing a shift in its training facilities.

German media outlets have been reporting that German Defense Minister Thomas De Maizere informed airmen about the move recently. It was reported that he told them that training on the Patriot Missile Defense System will move to Husum, Germany.

“The transformation of the German Armed Forces is in the process, future plans for the Air and Missile Defense training in the USA are still in progress and dates for realization are not available yet,” a spokesman for the German Air Force at Fort Bliss said in a statement to ABC-7.

German media are also reporting that German airmen stationed at Holloman Air Force Base also could be affected with a reduction in crew a possibility.
