79-Year-Old Woman Dies From Injuries After Being Hit By Car

A 79-year-old woman died on Thursday as a result of injuries sustained in a pedestrian traffic collision last month, according to El Paso Police officials.

At 6:36 p.m. on Feb. 21, Victoriana Fernandez was crossing Memphis St. in a crosswalk at the intersection with Piedras when she was struck by a truck driven by Jovanna Apodaca that was traveling north on Piedras and turned left onto Memphis, according to police. The front of the truck struck Fernandez, knocking her to the ground. She was taken to University Medical Center for treatment where she died on March 1.

Police officials said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision. This is the third pedestrian fatality and the eighth traffic fatality of 2012.
