Ysleta Education Foundation Awards $160,000 In Scholarships

On Tuesday, 39 students were surprised at the annual Ysleta Education Foundation (YEF) Scholarship Sweep where board members of the Ysleta Education Foundation, YISD Board of Trustees and the Superintendent will go campus to campus and make the announcement of the 2012 scholarship recipients.

The YEF received over 353 scholarship applications. The 39 recipients were selected from applications submitted in three categories, academic, personal achievement and community service, by the YEF Board of Directors.

The Ysleta Education Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, that was established in 1992 to provide financial assistance to students in the Ysleta Independent School District (YISD).

Albert Alvidrez, YEF President said “The YEF scholarships are made possible by the generosity of YISD district employees and El Paso community and business partners who contribute to this worthy cause. We hope to be able to raise additional funds so that in years to come, all students could receive a YEF scholarship and pursue their educational goals and dreams.”

The Foundation is celebrating its 20th year and has awarded 944 scholarships totaling more than $1.9 million to students in Ysleta Independent School District.

These YISD students represent a broad spectrum of excellence in academics, leadership, and community service. Students are attending and graduating from colleges and universities across the United States.

The Price’s Middle school Scholarships, and memorial scholarships recipients will be announced at the YEF scholarship banquet and ceremony to be held on May 4, 2012.
