El Paso Wins Social Media Tourism Symposium

The El Paso Convention and Visitors Bureau announced that El Paso beat out 16 other U.S. cities and has been named the lead destination of the 2012 Social Media Tourism Symposium.

El Paso received a total of 19,545 votes in three rounds on the SoMeT12 Facebook page.

“We are elated that the Social Media Tourism Symposium planning committee selected us to host this very progressive-thinking conference,” said Bill Blaziek, General Manager of the El Paso Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“Although this is an effort initially put forth by the El Paso CVB, we definitely know that we could not have done this without the tremendous support we received from the community, especially the local media who helped us spread word about what we were trying to accomplish though the online voting process,” he continued.

This is the third year the symposium has taken place. It’s designed for destination marketing organizations, hotels, resorts, attractions and other tourism-related entities. Potential attendees and fans of each bidding city determine the host location by logging onto Facebook and voting.

Those interested in attending the SoMe Tourism Symposium from Nov. 7-9, are encouraged to go to the Visit El Paso Facebook page here for the conference curriculum and more details.

The SoMe Tourism Symposium will take place on November 7-9, 2012, and is expected to draw 250 tourism professionals from all over the country.

El Paso reached the top three last year, but Tunica, Miss. ended up placing first.
