Ron Paul Announces Visit To El Paso

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is set to appear in El Paso this month. His campaign has announced a visit and town hall meeting, at the University of Texas El Paso’s Magoffin Auditorium on Wednesday.

Paul, a 12 term Texas Congressman, calls himself the only true conservative in the race for the Republican presidential nod.

To date, the Paul campaign has raised more than $10 million in the first quarter, and has no debt. While much of the spotlight has shown on expected nominee Mitt Romney since Rick Santorum’s exit from the race, Paul has continued to push on along with Newt Gingrich.

A candidate must earn 1,144 delegates to earn the Republican nomination. While Ron Paul holds 63 delegates, it is a far cry from Romney’s 685. However, if he and Gingrich gathered enough delegates to prevent Romney from reaching 1,144, there could still be a chance for the Libertarian to gain a shot at taking on President Barack Obama in the race for the U.S. presidency.

This weekend, Paul has been campaigning in his birth state of Pennsylvania. There he has attempted to gain the attention of both liberals and conservatives by suggesting the U.S. Federal Reserve banking system and drug laws should be eliminated.

Paul’s campaign also announced upcoming visits to Austin and Houston.
