Vanessa de la Via

Vanessa de la Via joined the ABC-7 news team in November 2011.

Born and raised in Miami, she grew up watching the local news and videotaping herself ?reporting live? from her backyard during hurricanes. This passion for news led her to attend magnet programs for broadcast news throughout middle and high school. At a young age, she learned the basics of editing, filming, and writing for news.

Vanessa is a proud Gator graduate of the University of Florida?s College of Journalism and Communications. She explored all kinds of news outlets during her four years in “The Swamp.” She was a reporter and anchor for the noon news show ?All Things Considered? at WUFT-FM, the local NPR affiliate. She also worked as a reporter and entertainment anchor for WUFT-TV, the local PBS affiliate.

She spent a year as a multi-media reporter for the ABC News On Campus program. Her stories and footage were featured on ABC News Radio, ABCNews.com, and Good Morning America. She worked with network producers to cover hot topics including the Gulf Oil Spill and the Terry Jones Koran burning. At the end of the program, she executive produced and edited an in-depth segment on the Lost Boys of the Sudan that aired on ABC News Now.

Vanessa is excited to experience all that New Mexico and Texas have to offer, especially the delicious food and great outdoor activities. In her free time, you?ll usually find her with her Pomeranian and a great book.

She loves meeting new people and finding out what they think is important in their community. Feel free to send her a message with story ideas or just to say hello!
