Mom Of Dallas Trucker Jailed In Mexico Finds Help from Borderland Dad
They may now be best of friends and they only just met on Tuesday.
“I feel as if God sent Mr. (Kevin) Huckabee into my life. He made that connection,” Aletha Smith, mother of Dallas truck driver, Jabin Bogan, said. “I do feel that way.”
That connection is echoed by Huckabee.
“You’re to help the ones who’ve gone through a similar circumstance,” Huckabee said. “So yeah, I believe that.”
Huckabee’s son, Shohn, was jailed in the Juarez Cereso Prison for nearly two years. During his incarceration, Huckabee said his son was tortured and beaten.
Smith and Huckabee heard from her son on Tuesday. It was two weeks, to the day, nearly to the hour, that the truck driver crossed the Bridge of the Americas into Juarez, transporting a cargo load of high-powered rifle ammunition.
Bogan’s family, his boss, and most people who have evaluated the case, agree that Bogan crossed into Mexico unintentionally.
“He didn’t have a passport,” Smith said. “He wasn’t going to Mexico.”
Mexican federal prosecutors have charged Bogan with military ammunition smuggling. They say the high-powered rounds he was carrying were meant for AK-47s — a favorite weapon among Mexican cartels.
But Huckabee disagrees. The rifle rounds Bogan was shipping were 308s — too large to fit into the chamber of an AK-47. Huckabee said the rifle which uses a 308 round is almost obsolete in Mexico and it is highly unlikely the cartels have their hands on such a weapon.
It could possibly be the final piece of evidence which makes their case – another example of why Smith believes Huckabee was put in her life for a reason.
“I met him for the first time today, and I know this is God,” Smith said. “I know this is of God.”
