Local Boxing Champ Set To Defend Title
For the last couple months, WBA junior middleweight world champion Austin “No Doubt” Trout has been training and preparing for his title defense against Delvin Rodriguez next Saturday in Los Angeles.
“I think the only thing we need to do now is get a lot of rest, and rebuild,” said Trout’s trainer, Louie Burke. “I know he’s tired because he’s had a very rigorous and hard camp, and now its about letting the body rest and prepare.”
The champ has more on the line than just defending his belt.
“Delvin’s a well respected boxer,” said Trout. “A win over him would definitetly propel me into the top 10, even the pound for pound list depending on how I win.”
Despite having a perfect 24-0 record, Trout decided to change his workout routine for this fight, putting emphasis on getting stronger physically.
“When we’re working out, I show him he’s stronger than the next guy,” said Trout’s strength coach, Shukree Shabazz. “He knows that Delvin’s not working out like he is.”
For the last eight weeks, Trout says he has committed every available second to this championship fight. From hours in the weight room to sparring several hours a day at the Sammy Burke Youth Center in Las Cruces.
If he can secure a convincing win Saturday night, Trout hopes that and a 25-0 record will leave little doubt in the boxing world he is one of the sport’s best.
