1) NUMBER-ONE CAMPAIGN FOCUS:
Job growth in El Paso. We want to strengthen our local businesses by cutting the red tape, holding the line on taxes and encouraging local hiring. This will also help create an environment that is attractive for bringing industry to El Paso.
2) WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM YOUR OPPONENTS?
My long history of serving my community, serving families and youth in El Paso. I’m the only candidate who has started a non-profit organization to help young people and their families in El Paso. I’m also a long time business owner, I started my first business at 16 years old and with the exception of 4 years, I’ve been self employed my whole life.
3) RELEVANT EXPERIENCE THAT QUALIFIES YOU FOR THE POSITION YOU SEEK:
I’m a business owner, job creator, and problem solver. I understand what it is to start up and sustain a project. I know how to stay on budget and what it means to make payroll. I have also managed thousands of employees over the years. When I see a problem, I do something about it, I have a long history of meeting unmet needs in our community.
4) IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO REVOKE ONE ORDINANCE IN EL PASO IMMEDIATELY UPON TAKING OFFICE, WHICH ONE WOULD IT BE?
I would revoke the ordinance that overturned the vote of the people regarding benefits to unmarried partners.
5) DESCRIBE A MOMENT THAT CHANGED YOUR LIFE:
When I married Catrina. She came from a completely different background and helped me to see what life is like for young people who come from a broken home. Everything she has shared with me I have used to help thousands of kids through a very difficult season. I am very thankful for our marriage, her friendship and her support.
6) IN WHAT WAYS IS EL PASO ON THE RIGHT TRACK, AND IN WHAT WAYS DOES IT NEED TO CHANGE COURSE?
People that were involved in corruption are being made accountable. In the meantime, it may be a black eye on our community, but in the long run it will weed out the corruption and hopefully deter others from this type of activity.
We need to change course in how divided we are on issues like the baseball park. Whether we wanted it or not, whether we liked the way it was handled or not, we are getting a ballpark. It’s in El Paso’s best interest to make this succeed, we need to remember that and put El Paso first. The ballpark succeeding is not a victory for a certain group of people, we shouldn’t be keeping score, it’s a victory for El Paso.
IF ELECTED, HOW WILL YOU BALANCE THE NEEDS OF FAMILY, YOUR CAREER AND YOUR OFFICE?
I will do what I have always done; I will give 110% while on the job and make sure that my time with my wife and family remains protected. We have an excellent partner and employees at The Bagel Shops and Wayside and I know they will continue to do great work.
WHEN AND WHY DID YOU COME TO EL PASO (IF APPLICABLE)? I came to El Paso in 1991 to manage at Golden Corral.
