Las Cruces police arrest man accused of shooting ex’s new boyfriend
The taxi cab driver suspected in last Friday evening’s shooting that injured a 41-year-old man has been arrested and charged with several felony counts.
Darren L. Henry Sr., 47, of the 2100 block of Windsor Place, is charged with one count each of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a household member, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.
The victim of the shooting was transported to University Medical Center of El Paso. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Las Cruces police detectives learned that Henry and his ex-girlfriend were involved in an argument when the woman’s new boyfriend intervened on the evening of Friday, Feb. 22. Detectives learned that Henry, a driver for Las Cruces Taxi Service, drove a cab to his ex-girlfriend’s residence near the corner of Mohegan Trail and Nemesh Drive sometime around 10:30 p.m. Friday.
The woman, her 19-year-old son and the woman’s new boyfriend went outside where Henry allegedly threatened them with a handgun. Sometime during the argument Henry fired several shots striking the woman’s new boyfriend at least once.
Henry fled from the scene but was quickly located by Las Cruces police on Tres Nios Drive. He was arrested and subsequently booked into the Doa Ana County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
