Rash of fires in the Borderland this week leaves three families without homes.
The flames have had no mercy. Destroying homes and the memories made behind their walls.
We’ve seen fire crews battling the blazes all week.
Afire in Central El Pasoleft an elderly couple without a home.
Early Saturday, more than 20 members of the Santa TeresaROTC stepped up to help the couple out.
“The community came together to work and clean out some of the debris that was left over after the fire,” said event organizer Carmen Rodriguez.
Rodriguez says it’s the efforts of the community that make a difference.
“Our community shines in that matter. They really get together and start working to help each other out,” said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez tellsABC-7 even the donated dump trucks and portable johns help the cause.
Several minutes away in Canutillo, Fred Balderrama got a phone call he’ll never forget.
“Uncle your trailers’ on fire. You got to call 911,” Balderrama tells ABC-7.
It turned his world upside down.
“It’s not a good feeling. You don’t know what to expect,” said Balderrama. He watched as home was consumed by flames. “I saw the smoke coming out and from this back area from the outside.”
In the wake of the damage, one question remains.
“Where do we go from here?” said Balderrama.
Atough question made tougher becauseBalderrama doesn’t have homeowner’s insurance.
“I don’t know.I’m still in shock. I’ve been here 27 years,” said Balderrama.
Balderrama’sdaughter Korina, only 15, got the news while she was at school and her first thought: “how are we going to pay for every thing?”said Korina.
Korina told ABC-7not knowing what the future holds is what keeps her up at night.
“It’s hard because you don’t know really know what’s going to happen next,” said Korina.
Balderrama, a single father raising a young daughter,humbly pleads for help from the community.
“My dad is a single parent and he’s done so much for me and for this to happen it could just happen to anybody,” said Korina.
