El Paso Police arrest driver in Tuesday’s fatal traffic accident on U.S. 54

June 26, 2013 update: The El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit has made an arrest in the alleged hit-and-run collision that occurred Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 54 that killed 41-year-old Ciro Lozano.

Police say Lozano was struck by a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro being driven by 23-year-old Alberto Garcia. After Garcia struck Lozano he allegedly fled the scene in the Camaro, according to police. The vehicle was located a short time later and investigators were able to identify Garcia as the driver at the time of the crash.

Garcia has been arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a charge of Accident Causing Serious Bodily Injury or Death. His bond was set at $70,000.

June 25, 2013 story: El Paso Police are looking for the driver who allegedly struck and killed a TxDOT worker on U.S. 54 Tuesday afternoon.

Police say that at about 1:37 p.m. the 41-year-old TxDOT worker, whose name has not been released, was performing maintenance on U.S. 54 North near the Fred Wilson off-ramp. He was struck by a northbound vehicle and died on the scene.

Investigators are speaking with witnesses and examining physical evidence to try and determine what type of vehicle was involved.

This is the 24th traffic related fatality of 2013 compared to 23 during this same time period in 2012.
