Adopting a Dog vs. a Cat: What’s the Right Fit for You

Adopting a pet is a big decision and choosing between a cat or a dog depends on more than just preference. According to staff at the Humane Society of El Paso, it all comes down to lifestyle and personality both yours and the animal’s.

“Some dogs, especially seniors, are low-maintenance and easygoing, while some cats can be high-energy and playful,” said AJ Bethel, Communications Associate at the Humane Society. “It really depends on the personality of the pet.”

The shelter encourages potential adopters to spend time with the animals, see who they connect with, and ask questions. Whether you’re home often or work a 9-to-5, there’s a pet out there that can fit your routine.

And for those who can’t adopt right now, the Humane Society offers sponsorship opportunities to help support an animal’s care until they find a forever home.

This week, the Humane Society is hosting its annual telethon, raising funds to continue providing shelter, food, and medical care for hundreds of pets across the Borderland.
