El Paso man charged with injury to a child
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- El Paso Police arrested Louis Ramon Whitson, 30, and charged him with injury to a child on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. He was booked into jail on a $200,000 bond, jail records show.
The charge stems from an incident that happened on August 8 at the Ridgemar Apartments in east El Paso.
Court documents state that detectives were called out to a local hospital on reports that an infant had suffered a seizure and brain bleed. Court documents state that at the hospital, Whitson told detectives that the victim fell and hit his head on a bathtub. He then played Call of Duty while the child slept, according to detectives. A few hours later, Whitson noticed the child's arms were rigid, he was not responding to external stimuli, and he fell over when Whitson sat him up. Whitson then called 911, the documents state.
Medical staff at the hospital told detectives that the infant had suffered a brain bleed and strokes to both sides of the brain. They performed an emergency craniotomy to relieve the swelling and pressure in the child's brain. He was in unstable condition and intubated for several days. A radiologist told detectives that "the injuries sustained by the [victim] were non-accidental." Court documents state that the radiologist advised the infant experienced swelling because the blood supply was interrupted. The radiologist said that the skull fracture was not consistent with a drop or a fall, but was consistent with a "hard slam." An ophthalmologist also advised that the victim experienced retinal hemorrhaging behind both eyes connected with "non-accidental trauma caused by brain hemorrhages and abusive head trauma." The child would have experienced symptoms within minutes after impact, the medical staff told detectives.
