UTEP’s Tim Floyd wants Haskins Center sellout for Saturday’s game
With UTEP moving into a first-place tie in C-USA, coach Tim Floyd is asking the community to pack the Don Haskins Center for Saturday’s Rice game and sell it out.
“Our crowd (Thursday) was phenomenal and I want them to spread the word. I’d like to have a sellout in here on Saturday,” Floyd said in a statement. “I just think these kids deserve it and we’re playing at that kind of level. We’re in first right now and I’d like to see our people respond and pack this place in. I think we really deserve it based on effort. I’ve never asked people to come out. I think you’ve got to earn these things. But I think these kids are earning it as we move along.”
The Miners (15-6, 5-1 C-USA) have won 10 of their last 11 games and have a five-game Conference USA winning streak for the first time since the 2009-10 season.
Tickets for Saturday’s game start at just $8 and are available now by calling 747-5234. In addition, the price of adult tickets in the copper reserved section has been reduced to $12 (ordinarily $18) for this game. The copper ticket special is in effect on game day only.
UTEP also will have a $5 concession special Saturday – hot dog, small soda, and a small popcorn for $5 while supplies last.
In addition, 2,000 UTEP basketball backpacks will be given away at the game courtesy of One Source Federal Credit Union.
The Miners have averaged 85 points and shot 55.8 percent (58-for-104) from the field in a three-game homestand that ends on Saturday. UTEP had a pair of 20-point scorers in the win over Louisiana Tech on Thursday, as Vince Hunter tied the school freshman record with 26 points and Julian Washburn added 21 points.
