Mom allegedly hits son when he won’t go to sleep, Las Cruces police say

Las Cruces Police have arrested a mother suspected for allegedly striking her 3-year-old boy when he refused to go back to sleep, according to police officials.

Martha G. Reyes, 31, was arrested July 7, and is charged with one count of intentional child abuse, a third degree felony.

Police said Reyes was apparently frustrated and she allegedly grabbed a sandal and struck the boy several times, leaving bruises on his buttocks, thigh and forearm.

The boy has since been placed in the custody of other family members.

Reyes was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
