Residents concerned about neighborhood eyesore

For about six years residents of a northeast El Paso neighborhood have been living with what they call an eyesore on their street.

Now some residents said they want something to be done about the boarded-up home on the 6000 block of Redstone.

In 2008, th Office of Code Compliance for the city of El Paso condemned the home.

Pete Martinez lives next door and said it is becoming more than just an eyesore.

“There is animal feces, human feces all around the house. It’s becoming a health hazard,” said Martinez.

Most recently residents discovered a beehive in eaves of the home’s roof.

Martinez said he hasn’t been able to sell his home because his property value has gone down.

A notice was posted on the front door from the city dated November 2011.

It was addressed to the listed owner, Michael Jones.

Deputy Director of Code Compliance, Bill Stern, said it hasn’t been easy locating Jones.

Stern said a court hearing was held in September 2011, where city officials required the home to be registered as a vacant building.
