Las Cruces man convicted of domestic violence

A Las Cruces man was convicted of aggravated battery against a household member with a deadly weapon, according to a press release from the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Las Cruces. An additional count of misdemeanor domestic violence was added, the release said.

The release states that on Sept. 2, 2010, 46-year-old Sabino Jacques punched and kicked his girlfriend while under the influence of alcohol. He continued to attack the woman with a flashlight until neighbors interfered and physically pulled Jacques away, the release added.

According to the release, Jacques has six previous felony convictions.

His sentencing is pending, but could lead to four years in prison. Additionally, the release said another four years may be tacked on to the sentence under New Mexico’s habitual offender statute.
