EL PASO INC: Paul Foster: Triple-A baseball deal on track
The acquisition of the Triple-A Tucson Padres by MountainStar Sports Group is drawing close to completion, just as opposition to a new Downtown ballpark on the site of City Hall is getting organized.
MountainStar investor Paul Foster told El Paso Inc. in a telephone interview Friday that the acquisition process had come a long way since the Pacific Coast League gave its go-ahead last month in Buffalo, N.Y.
Last week, the league’s executive committee gave its approval, Foster said, and authorized MountainStar to file what’s called a control interest transfer. That’s a significant step before approvals by the Pacific league, Minor League Baseball and then Major League Baseball.
Foster, his wife Alejandra de la Vega Foster, businessman Woody Hunt and his son, Josh Hunt, formed MountainStar to buy the ball club for a reported $20 million from Padres owner Jeff Moorad.
