City to allow free parking Downtown on tax-free holiday weekend

In an effort to give Downtown shoppers a break and retail and cultural activities a boost, the City of El Paso is waiving all parking meter fees during the upcoming Texas tax-free holiday weekend.

The City’s International Bridges Department, which oversees the parking meter program, will offer free parking at all parking meters from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Friday, August 17, and Saturday, August 18.

The city has about 1,825 parking meters in Downtown El Paso. Shoppers will be able to park at city meters free of charge in celebration of the state’s tax-free weekend. This year, the state’s annual tax holiday starts August 17.

The Downtown Management District (DMD) and the Central Business Association (CBA) will also partner to offer special promotions in Downtown during the tax-free weekend.
