El Paso Police issue new attempted murder warrant in De Soto shooting after releasing wrong name last week
Feb. 11, 2014 Update: El Paso Police issued a warrant for 23-year old Aubrey Dale Woods for criminal attempted capital murder in the De Soto Hotel Downtown shooting incident Feb. 6 in which he allegedly fired a gun twice at a police officer.
Police had previously released the wrong name to the media of the person arrested in the incident .
“The preliminary information given to investigators, who were not able to speak with the subject, by residents and paperwork from the apartment identified the subject as (Andray) Harris,” a police spokesman said in a news release.
Police say further investigation has confirmed that the man in police custody is Woods.
Woods has been at University Medical Center (UMC) and in police custody since he was arrested on Feb. 6.
Woods will be booked on the charge when he is released from UMC. His bond has been set at $500,000.
Update: An unidentified man has been charged with Criminal Attempt Capital Murder after he allegedly fired at a uniformed El Paso Police officer Thursday afternoon.
El Paso Police responded to a disturbance call just after noon at the De Soto Hotel in Downtown El Paso when an officer made contact with the unidentified man at his third floor hotel room door.
Police say the man answered the door and, without notice, fired a round from a gun at the uniformed police officer.
The officer took cover as the man allegedly fired a second round at the officer.
The man then barricaded himself inside his hotel room.
The suspect eventually exited the hotel room where he was taken into custody after a struggle with officers. The suspect has been taken to University Medical Center for medical evaluation.
He faces a charge of Criminal Attempt Capital Murder. Police did not release the man’s name.
Previous story: A man has been taken into custody in connection with a SWAT situation at the De Soto Hotel Downtown Thursday afternoon, according to El Paso Police.
El Paso Police officers and SWAT team members responded to the incident after reports of shots being fired earlier in the afternoon.
The hotel is located on Mills near Kansas and police closed off Mills from around Stanton to about half a block past Kansas, telling people outside the yellow tape that they were concerned about more shots being fired. Dozens of police could be seen at the scene.
Police tell ABC-7 that the alleged shooter was on the third floor of the De Soto.
