Tucson fans excited about return of Triple-A baseball for Chihuahuas’ 4-game series

Tucson baseball fans will get one more chance to see their old Triple-A baseball team – and they seem pretty excited about it.

The El Paso Chihuahuas will play four games against the Reno Aces at Tucson’s Kino Stadium from April 11-14. The games were originally to open El Paso’s new ballpark but were moved to Tucson so the El Paso stadium can be completed.

MountainStar Sports Group bought the Tucson Padres and moved them to El Paso to begin play in the Sun City this season.

Several Tucson baseball fans posted comments of excitement about the four-game series on the Facebook page of Mike Feder, the former general manager of the Tucson Padres. Feder is in charge of the four-game series in Tucson.

“We’re so excited!!” Tara Lee Rose Oursler wrote in a comment, while Brett Porkchop Miller called the news “AWESOME!!!!”

While excited about the games, John Carbajal isn’t sure who to cheer for.

“You know we’ll be there but not sure who to cheer for!?! lol Oh well I’ll just hope for lots of extra innings!” Carbajal wrote in his comment.

Matt Brown, on the other hand, is seeing the series in a different way.

“Pains me to no end that the two teams participating are the very two teams that originally called Kino home and the same two that not enough Tucsonans supported. Baseball Gods can be straight mean at times,” Brown wrote in his comment.

Tickets for the Tucson games will go on sale March 3 at Kino Stadium, according to the Kino Sports Complex website. Ticket prices have not been announced.
