El Pasoan killed in wreck in New Mexico
An El Paso woman was killed on the night of Aug. 27 seven miles south of Socorro, New Mexico in a three vehicle crash on I-25.
Bertha Sanchez, 42, of El Paso, was a passenger in a 2003 Honda that was involved in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
New Mexico State Police said a 2002 Cadillac was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when it struck a 2003 Honda. The Cadillac came to rest in the middle of the southbound lanes and was then struck by a 1996 GMC van.
Three other passengers in the Honda were taken to Socorro General Hospital and one was flown to UNMH in Albuquerque and is in critical-stable condition. Two passengers of the GMC van were transported to El Paso with minor injuries.
The driver of the 2002 Cadillac, 21-year-old Reyes Duran of Socorro, was taken to Socorro General Hospital with minor injuries treated and released. Duran was then arrested by State Police for DWI, New Mexico State Police said.
Police said alcohol was a contributing factor in this crash.
