First Alert issued ahead of expected cooldown

Temperatures across the Borderland are expected to drop into the 50’s beginning Sunday.

A storm system will be moving into our area, bringing high wind, slight chances of rain, and the coolest air the area has seen since last spring.

The system will begin moving in on Friday, kicking the winds up to 40 miles per hour in some areas. Chances for rain will sit at 10% in the lowlands. Higher terrain will see a higher chance of rain. The temperatures will remain warm on Friday, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Saturday will be the windiest day of the weekend, and chances for rain will continue at 10%. Winds may gust to 50 miles per hour in El Paso. Temperatures will begin to cool in the region. El Paso should hit a high of 75.

However, by Saturday evening and into Sunday, the cool air will settle. This will drop temperatures drastically. Overnight Saturday temperatures will move to the mid to upper 40s. Sunday highs will only reach the mid 50s in much of the borderland. El Paso has a forecast high of 57. Winds will begin to die down Sunday, gusting to 30 miles per hour.

At this time, the First Alert is expected to expire Sunday evening.

However, the first freeze of the season may hit Monday evening. As a result, the First Alert may be extended this weekend.
