City hires firm to design Triple-A ballpark Downtown

City Council voted 6-2 today to approve a more than $3 million contract with the Kansas City firm Populous as the main architect for design of the city’s new $50 million Downtown Triple-A ballpark.

Only City Representatives Carl Robinson and Eddie Holguin, who have been against the tearing down of City Hall in order to build the ballpark all along, voted against the approval of the architect.

Populous is expected to be joined by several subcontractors as consultants, including three from El Paso: WP Moore, R. Navarro and MNK Architects.

The 7,000 to 9,000-seat ballpark is expected to include 20 to 30 luxury boxes and 250 to 500 club level seats. In addition there will be concession facilities, team facilities and team office space, a team store, programming for kitchen equipment and scoreboard and video board design.
