’50-1′ cast, race horse to appear at Sunland Derby

Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird is returning to the Sunland Derby, but not as a competitor.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports the New Mexico-based race horse that has inspired the new movie “50 to 1” will be appearing at the Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino before the race.

The movie’s cast and crew will also be there at 10 a.m. inside the casino’s Signature Showroom.

The filmmakers and actors have been on a cross-country tour to promote the movie, which premiered in Albuquerque on Wednesday.

Mine That Bird pulled one of the greatest upsets in Kentucky Derby history in 2009 despite 50-to-1 odds. Before winning, the horse placed fourth in the Sunland Derby that year.

The Sunland Derby is scheduled to start at 5:40 p.m.
