UTEP’s Floyd to Be Enshrined in Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame

UTEP Head Coach Tim Floyd will be enshrined in the Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame next month. The induction ceremonies will be held during the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches’ 40th Annual Awards Banquet, which will be held on Saturday, May 3 in Baton Rouge.

Floyd was the head coach at the University of New Orleans from 1988-94, compiling a record of 127-58. He led the Privateers for five postseason tournament appearances (two NCAA/three NIT) in six years. UNO averaged 21 victories under Floyd, who became one of just four NCAA Division I coaches to win four conference championships in their first five years at a school. He was twice named the conference Coach of the Year at New Orleans (American South in 1989 and Sun Belt in 1993).

He was selected the NABC District 8 Coach of the Year in 1989 and 1993. His 1992-93 squad was ranked 17th in the final Associated Press regular season poll with a 26-4 record (18-0 Sun Belt).

The Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame was created in 1975. The Hall of Fame display was originally located in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at LSU in Baton Rouge. In 2008 the Hall of Fame display was moved to Louisiana’s historic Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge. It contains plaques and mementos of persons elected to the Hall of Fame, along with other historic basketball memorabilia.

Past inductees include Pete Maravich, Robert Parish, Joe Dumars, Karl Malone and Shaquille O’Neal.
