Hardly any part of the Borderland was safe from Saturday’s hail storm.
The hail pelted the ABC-7 studios on the Westside a little before 4 p.m. Saturday.
Sheets of ice covered the ground and roadways looked like they had seen hours of snow.
Towns as far as Tornillo took a hit, leaving wet roads and people scrambling to put new wipers on.
Riders bicycling across the United States promoting testicular cancer awareness got stuck in the rain.
“We were just trying to get to the next town as quick as possible and we got here right under the awning when it just started to drizzle and(then) it poured down,” said bicyclist Christopher Olson.
The effects of the storms weren’t as apparent on the west side
A glacier of frozen hail covered half of Stanton Street.
Passers-by couldn’t get enough of the sight,
“We were in shorts and all of the sudden two hours later it’s like the sky just opened and winter was here,” said Marissa Andrade.
Andrade said her family was having an Easter egg hunt when the hail hit.
They walked outside to find the layer of ice.
Emma Hernandez was anxious to play in the snow.
“It feels cold but fun because i can throw it up and make snow man and stuff,” Hernandez said.
“It’s kinda crazy. Here we are in April and we finally get some snow to play in,” said Andrade.
ABC-7 Stormtrack radar showed that the hail in that area fell within just an hour.
