Tomlinson Named to 2014 John Mackey Preseason Watch List

Senior Eric Tomlinson was named to the 2014 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List on Tuesday.

The award is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end.

The tight end started in all 12 games last season and was named to the 2013 All-Conference USA honorable mention team. The Klein, Texas, native led UTEP tight ends in receptions (30) and receiving yards (304). His receptions were the most by a UTEP tight end since the 2008 season. Tomlinson set career-highs in catches (eight) and yards (75) and added a touchdown against Colorado State on Sept. 28, 2013.

The senior is one of three Conference USA tight ends (Kennard Backman – UAB and Mitchell Henry – WKU) to be named to the watch list.

The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2014 John Mackey recipient will be announced onDec. 10, 2014, and then presented live on Dec. 11, 2014 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. Other key dates include the announcement of the 2014 Mackey Midseason Watch List on Oct. 13, 2014, the 2014 Mackey Semifinalists on Nov. 17, 2014 and the 2014 Mackey Finalists on Nov. 24, 2014.
