Driver slams against TXDOT vehicle, freeway shut down for one hour

A man in in the hospital after his scar slammed against a TXDOT vehicle Monday afternoon, causing the freeway to be shut down.

El Paso county sheriff’s deputies say a 70-year-old man was heading eastbound on I-10 when he rear-ended a TXDOT truck that was painting the yellow line along the shoulder. The crash happened on I-10 at Fabens before 2 p.m.

Crews made traffic exit I-10 at Clint, then routed traffic to North Loop.

Our photographer on the scene reported emergency crews had to cut through the car to pull the driver out. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the traffic truck received a minor scratch.

Initially, TXDOT reported the highway would be closed for four hours, but followed up with a message at 3 p.m. saying all lanes were open.
