Lincoln National Forest’s fire danger now at ‘very high’

Lincoln National Forest officials say the risk for fires is very high.

The warning is for Alamogordo, Ruidoso, Cloudcroft, and Carlsbad.

It’s all because of drought conditions, wind, and warm weather.

The “very high” warning indicates fires can start easily and grow quickly.

Officials say if you plan to visit Lincoln National Forest you need to make sure campfires are out, don’t park vehicles on dry grass, and don’t toss cigarettes out – especially near vegetation.

It’s also important to remember it is illegal to possess or use fireworks on public lands.
