Candidates make last-minute campaign appeals ahead of New Mexico primary Tuesday

Candidates running in New Mexico’s primary election are making last-minute appeals to voters before polls open on Tuesday.

On the ballot in a wide-open Democratic gubernatorial race are Attorney General Gary King, Santa Fe businessman Alan Webber, former government administrator Lawrence Rael and state Sens. Howie Morales and Linda Lopez.

Early voting ended Saturday, and polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Democratic gubernatorial nominee will challenge Republican Gov. Susana Martinez in the general election.

On Monday, King visited senior citizen centers in Albuquerque. Older voters typically account for a large share of those who cast ballots in a primary election.

Rael and Webber planned to attend an early evening get-out-the-vote rally in Eldorado, a community near Santa Fe.
