Las Cruces Police charge man in alleged beating of elderly couple, theft of their truck

A burglary has a Las Cruces community on edge after the alleged intruder brutally attacked an elderly couple, according to police.

Police say the attack happened on the 800 block of Camino Del Rex in Las Cruces and the husband is fighting for his life.

The alleged intruder, 42-year-old Guy Jaime Young, is facing several charges, including two counts of attempted murder.

Police say Young attacked the husband outside the home before he entered the house and demanded money and truck keys from the wife.

Young also allegedly hit the woman with a hammer.

Young then fled in the couple’s 2003 Chevy truck.

The couple were taken to two separate hospitals but family members say they’re expected to be okay.

Detectives learned that Young was arrested early Tuesday morning a La Llorona Park after a Dona Ana County Sheriff’s deputy found him in possession of a controlled substance. Young was also found to be in violation of his probation and was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. He was released on his own recognizance just before 7 p.m. Tuesday.
