DEVELOPING: House fire displaces elderly man

The El Paso Fire Department was called out to a house fire on the 7800 block of Hermosillo in El Paso’s lower valley Tuesday morning.

EPFD reported via Twitter that crews arrived to the scene at about 7:00 a.m. after neighbors called 911 to report the fire.

Crews reported the fire as Condition 2, meaning flames and smoke were visible when crews arrived.

An elderly man in a wheelchair who lived in the home was able to get out with the help of his neighbors.

Fire crews evaluated the man on the scene for any injuries.

A total of eleven fire units and 27 firefighters responded to the fire.

After the fire was put out, an investigator was requested by EPFD to determine the cause.

Crews at the scene told an ABC-7 photographer that the home is “unlivable” and the Red Cross is assisting the man.

Damage to the home is estimated at $20,000.
